This was a truly rewarding project to be involved in from the very beginning. The renovation was expertly project managed by Tony from Barton Design Centre, who was working closely with clients who were longstanding friends of both his and the team here at Hasco Kitchens. With such a strong relationship behind the project, it felt personal from the outset, and there was a real shared commitment to creating something special.
The project involved a complete refurbishment of a bungalow in Barton on Sea, along with a carefully planned extension that squared off the rear of the property and made far better use of the available space. Through thoughtful reconfiguration, the home was transformed to include an additional bedroom, a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, and a new en-suite bathroom for the master bedroom.
Before the renovation, the kitchen was positioned in the centre of the home and followed a fairly standard layout. While functional, it didn’t make the most of the property’s potential or suit the way the clients wanted to live. The new extension created an opportunity to completely rethink the layout, introducing a much brighter, more expansive living space centred around a contemporary kitchen that would become the heart of the home.
The brief was to create a stylish open-plan environment that felt modern, practical and welcoming. To achieve this, we selected the Novus kitchen collection in Pure Limestone, giving the room a sophisticated neutral palette with a soft, timeless quality. Black handleless profiles and complementary black design details were then introduced throughout the kitchen, creating a striking contrast and adding depth, definition and a little drama to the overall scheme.
As the clients enjoy entertaining family and friends, a dedicated drinks area became an important part of the design. We created a seamless bar area within the dining zone, making it easy to serve drinks without interrupting activity in the main kitchen. This small but carefully considered feature helps the space work beautifully for entertaining, while still feeling fully integrated with the rest of the design.
A compact island with seating for two was also included, providing the perfect spot for everyday dining, a morning coffee or a relaxed conversation while cooking. Although the clients primarily live as a couple, family gatherings are a regular part of life, so the dining area was just as important as the kitchen itself. The finished layout gives them plenty of space to come together with loved ones, while still feeling comfortable and practical for everyday use.
The completed space perfectly reflects the clients’ lifestyle. It combines contemporary design, practical functionality and a warm, sociable atmosphere, transforming the bungalow into a modern home designed for both relaxation and entertaining. The result is a beautifully considered open-plan kitchen and living space that feels calm, welcoming and ready to be enjoyed for years to come.
