This project will always hold a special place for us, as it was the very first kitchen we had the pleasure of designing and supplying at Hasco Kitchens. From the initial meeting through to seeing the finished space come together, it was a fantastic experience and a project we are incredibly proud to look back on.
The introduction came through Connor from CJ Projects, a trusted partner we have worked alongside for many years. Over that time, we have supplied kitchens for both his clients and his own development projects, building a strong working relationship based on trust, quality and shared attention to detail. From our first meeting with the homeowners, it was clear this was going to be an enjoyable collaboration. We quickly built a great rapport and gained a real understanding of how important this renovation would be for their growing family.
The clients, a family of five living in a three-bedroom home in Mudeford, had simply outgrown their existing kitchen. The space no longer suited the way they lived, felt disconnected from the rest of the home and wasn’t large enough to support the demands of a busy family household. Their vision was to create a kitchen that would become the true heart of the home — somewhere everyone could gather, cook, dine, talk and spend quality time together.
As part of the wider renovation, Connor relocated the kitchen from the front of the property to an existing rear extension, which had previously been used as a playroom. This was a clever and practical reconfiguration that completely changed how the home worked. The original kitchen area could then be transformed into a useful bootility room, an additional bedroom and a shower room, creating much-needed extra living space while also giving the family’s eldest child more privacy.
Our role was to design a kitchen that could comfortably accommodate the whole family while still offering generous storage, practical workspace and all the appliances needed for everyday life. The centrepiece of the design is a large island with seating for all five family members, creating a natural place for meals, homework, conversation and entertaining. It gives the room a clear focal point and helps bring everyone together throughout the day.
Storage was a particularly important part of the brief, so we incorporated one of our signature butler pantry units into the design. This has become an invaluable feature for the family, offering excellent organisation and keeping everyday essentials neatly tucked away but easy to access. It is one of those details that not only looks impressive, but genuinely improves how the kitchen functions day to day.
Creating a calm, welcoming and sociable atmosphere was just as important as the practical layout. The clients wanted a space where the whole family could be involved in cooking and enjoy spending time together. With all three children regularly helping to prepare meals, positioning the hob within the island was the perfect choice. It allows cooking to become part of family life, rather than something separate, encouraging conversation, involvement and shared moments.
The completed kitchen has become exactly what the clients hoped for: the heart of their home and, by all accounts, the family’s favourite space. Seeing how much they now enjoy their new living environment is incredibly rewarding, and we are delighted to have played a part in creating a home that works so beautifully for the way they live.
